About the Department
The Department of English at Sourashtra College for Women, established in 2012, is dedicated to nurturing linguistic excellence, critical thinking, and creative expression among students. The department offers a comprehensive understanding of English language and literature, covering classical, modern, and contemporary works from global and Indian perspectives.
The programme emphasize not only literary knowledge but also communication skills, analytical ability, and personality development, enabling students to face academic and professional challenges with confidence. The curriculum includes poetry, drama, fiction, linguistics, literary criticism, and communication skills, helping students cultivate intellectual depth and creative excellence.

Association Name: Sarojini Naidu Association
Information related to the Association
- Activities conducted under the Sarojini Naidu Association, inspired by Sarojini Naidu, aim to promote literary talent, poetry recitation, oratory skills, and an appreciation of Indian literature.
- Annual department Functions are organized to celebrate academic and cultural excellence.
- Intra-collegiate meets encourage student participation and healthy competition. Stage performances such as the one-act play “Refund” help develop theatrical skills and literary appreciation.
- The department also organizes college expos for school students to showcase academic opportunities and talents. Presentations of selected scenes from William Shakespeare’s play foster interest in classical literature. Interactive power-point sessions on selected topics support effective and engaging learning.
Placement
- Placement Cell conducted a drive for English Language Trainers and selected nearly 30-35 students from our college in all the Departments in the year 2020.
- Some of our students got placed in INFACT- A Product of Crotser Consultants.
